HAPPY VALENTINES DAY from BROOKLYN BODEGA™

holiday road

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

With the nation gearing up for it’s annual Independence Day celebrations this week, (chinese made american flags - check, chinese made fire crackers - check, chinese made lawn furniture - check) many red blooded Americans will surely be packin’ up the ol’ station wagon as part of the modern tradition known to all as the ubiquitous family vacation. It is with this custom in mind that we take a look back today at the classic series of National Lampoon’s Vacation films. In honor of every pops Griswold to ever take on the open road…

THE FIRST: Vacation 1983; Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, Beverly D’Angelo as Ellen Griswold, Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie, Anthony Michael Hall as Russell ‘Rusty’ Griswold, and Dana Barron as Audrey Griswold

THE FUNNIEST: European Vacation 1985; Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, Beverly D’Angelo as Ellen Griswold, Jason Lively as Russell ‘Rusty’ Griswold, and Dana Hill as Audrey Griswold. Anthony Michael Hall was too busy with Weird Science, so they replaced both the kids… still works.

THE MONEY MAKER: Christmas Vacation 1989; Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, Beverly D’Angelo as Ellen Griswold, Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie, Johnny Galecki as Russell ‘Rusty’ Griswold, and Juliette Lewis as Audrey Griswold - not really in line with the summer theme, but definitely a classic. Russ loses his red hair and gets younger…

THE WORST: Vegas Vacation 1997; Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, Beverly D’Angelo as Ellen Griswold, Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie, Ethan Embry as Russell ‘Rusty’ Griswold, and Marisol Nichols as Audrey Griswold - this one wasn’t even licensed to use the National Lampoon moniker. Booty.

THE BLACKEST: Johnson Family Vacation 2004; Cedric The Entertainer as Clark Griswold, Vanessa Williams as Ellen Griswold, Lil’ Bow Wow as Russell ‘Rusty’ Griswold, and Solange Knowles as Audrey Griswold - Cedric’s replacing Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold was a smooth, barely noticeable transition - Bow Wow and little Beyonce were a bit of a distraction.

Have fun and be safe family, maybe we’ll see you on Coney Island.
